But it certainly wouldn't be "classical orchestral music" as it is defined and judged by people who listen to only that such thing.Įxperimentalists and musical eclecticists would probably really appreciate such an approach and sound, though. Depending on your application and how authentic or serious the piece needs to be, you could make some really interesting music in this way, with just the Tracker, a lot of organization and a lot of patience. If you have a really repetitive piece in mind, it could be done (against the grain, uphill both ways), but it would. You could do just one section at a time and bounce the section and then repeat this entire workflow for other sections based on other sub-projects where the instruments are loaded in as multi-sampled, and just keep spitting out stems to load into "higher-up projects" that eventually boil down to an actual patterning process with your own "samples" you made of your sub-project-instrument-sample-things, but the highest-level Master project, if you're doing it on the Tracker and not going to a DAW to finish up, is still limited to just under 2 minutes of total sample memory. So if you load up just seven 15-second instrument recordings, that's your whole sample memory for a project. With this method, you'd just export the pattern (or song, if the part you were writing extended beyond the max pattern length) to stem or however else you'd like to do it.įrom there, you could try to load those full-samples into a single "master" Tracker project, but again remember that each project tops out at about 2 minutes of sample memory unless you load all your samples as low-quality bitrate for a max of around 4 minutes total. (Again, though, remember that there's a maximum sample memory for each project and it fills up quick when using high-quality, long-duration samples in any large number.) You could then assign each correctly-pitched sample in the pattern/song views of that "instrument/section project file" by selecting a different "instrument (as defined on the Tracker)" each time you needed to change the pitch of the sampled (actual) instrument, instead of how we normally just press the different pitch keys to artificially pitch the sample. That said, you could export a stem of each instrument performance, which would allow you to make a project file for each instrument (or section) where you could load multi-sampled instruments (like where a real sample was taken at every octave, or every note, etc) and load those in to the 48 (I think) sample slots of each project. So, load a cello sample and have it play a high note and it will sound more than just "obviously sampled" and probably cheesy and synthetic at best. HOWEVER, Tracker doesn't pitch while preserving duration, so samples speed up and slow down based on pitch. and each sample can be pitched from very low to very high. To date, you can have 40-some samples loaded in a given project AND/OR a maximum sample memory, whichever comes first. ![]()
